Guildrymen Rory Macgregor and his son Andrew have been hailed heroes for their roles in saving two children from a blaze in Methven.
The father and son were awarded gold medals at the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s annual Police Public Bravery Awards for a courageous “selfless act.”
It was in August 2023 that the Macgregors heard screaming coming from a burning property in the Perthshire village.
Rory (63) and Andrew (25) bravely entered the home and saved the lives of two children.
They also came to the aid of two injured victims as they searched the smoke-filled building. Sadly, one casualty later died.
At the awards ceremony held in Sheffield, South Yorkshire Chief Constable Lauren Poultney said the Macgregors’ “immense bravery and selflessness undoubtedly saved multiple lives.
“Their actions exemplify why we host these awards every year.
“Members of the public supporting police and strangers in need, rather than walking away, display remarkable compassion and selflessness.”
“They choose to help without the training, safety equipment and support our police officers have access to while protecting the public from harm.”
