LORD Dean Euan Begg was invited to attend the Order of the Thistle ceremony in Edinburgh in his capacity as Lord President of the Court of Deans of Guild of Scotland.
He was accompanied to the service at St Giles’ Cathedral by his wife Anne and ex-Dean Gordon Bannerman and his wife Elaine.
Distinguished engineer and educationalist Sir James McDonald, Past Principal of the University of Strathclyde, was installed as a “Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle” in the presence of King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales – known as the Duke of Rothesay on visits to Scotland – and the Duke of Edinburgh, who were draped in striking green velvet robes, black velvet hats and white ostrich plumes for the occasion.
The Royal party was accompanied by Thistle Knights and the Royal Company of Archers, with The Pipes and Drums (2 Scots) and Military Band playing as they processed across West Parliament Square to the doors of the historic kirk on the Royal Mile.
